Ragini Dwivedi (Kempegowda, Villain, Ragini IPS) was in the midst of a schedule of her new Kannada film Sarkari Nyayabele Angadi, when OTTplay caught hold of her for a quick chat about her upcoming OTT debut. Ragini is a part of Chhal Kapat: The Deception, a murder mystery headlined by Shriya Pilgaonkar, in which the former is one of the main characters. “I am shooting in Maddur for Sarkari Nyayabele Angadi, a hard-hitting film about a scam in the PDS (public distribution system); it’s an offbeat film highlighting the shortcomings from the powers that be,” she tells us.
Chhal Kapat: The Deception will drop on Zee5 in June and Ragini is quite kicked about it, having spent a considerable time in Mumbai to audition and do look-tests and finally bagging this thriller directed by Ajay Bhuyan. “I had to do a series of meetings in Mumbai and luckily, I was shooting for Vrushabha there for a while and then I extended my stay. I’ve been keen on doing something in Hindi, but I didn’t think a web series would be the first step. I’ve never been hung up about only doing films and with this series, I have got a very good role,” says Ragini.
According to the official synopsis, the show follows SP Devika Rathore (Shriya), as she investigates the death of an influencer ahead of her best friend’s wedding. “It’s basically a story of four friends and follows events that occur at a destination wedding, including a murder. The narrative is all about how it happened and eventually leads to the who with a lot of twists and turns along the way. There are 9 suspects eventually, but the main story revolves around these four friends and I play one of them,” she says.
As Mehek, Ragini says that she plays a very “strong lead” in the series, a role that she adds was “nice and challenging” and made her happy. “It has multiple layers of performance and for a series, it actually gives me a lot of scope to show off my skillset. This is exactly what I was looking for – to be able to tap into the actor in me and not just be known for my glamorous side and the boldness that I carry. I want to show audiences that I am a good performer. In fact, I have made a conscious choice to pick scripts that help me in this endeavour,” says Ragini, adding, “From action to love stories and commercial entertainers, as well as a period film, I have a varied bouquet of films in my kitty now. I am in a happy space.”
