Vivan Bhathena has been working as an actor in the entertainment industry for over two decades now. While he initially worked in the television medium, the actor soon ventured into films and web series. Although he tried to experiment with different characters, Vivan did get stereotyped as an actor. In OTTplay's interview, Bhathena, who will be soon seen in Raisinghani vs Raisinghani, opened up about the reason it was easy for casting agents to bracket him into certain kinds of roles.
Speaking exclusively with us, Vivan Bhathena said he understands the casting process a little better now that he is a producer. Recalling how it was easy for casting people to put him into certain kinds of characters, the Raisinghani vs Raisinghani actor told OTTplay, "For casting people, it is easy to bracket or pit me into a particular kind of role. I also made it easy for them because I was doing those roles. I was also physically that person. It was a no-brainer for them and they would be like, 'Vivan ko daal do'. It was easy for them."
However, Vivan now feels he has to make a conscious effort to look like a character and not a model. "If I work out too much, I develop a physique that makes me look more like a model. It doesn't make me look like an actor. You look up to (actors like) Irrfan Khan and Manoj Bajpayee and you want to be in that space. Now, I just cater my physical appearance to my roles," he added.
Vivan further stated that he will never be able to fully let go of his physicality: "But I want to be more character-driven and targeting characters... rather than doing roles where I am looking good."
Meanwhile, Vivan Bhathena plays the lawyer Ishaan Talvar in Raisinghani vs Raisinghani. The actor will be seen alongside Jennifer Winget and Karan Wahi in the web show. It streams on SonyLIV and OTTplay Premium from Monday to Wednesday at 8 pm.
