In the world of content creators, Ronit Ashra is one of the most famous names. He is well-known for celebrity impersonations and has mimicked Alia Bhatt, Ananya Panday, Shehnaaz Gill, and more. The popular content creator has shared more than 200 posts, and all of them have gone viral on social media and received a lot of love. Apart from his social media content life, Ronit has also made his acting debut with Amazon MX Player's crime thriller web series, Swipe Crime. In an exclusive interview with OTTplay on April 20, Ronit discussed his content creator life, how he manages to stay grounded amid viral fame, his 'most proud' content, and also opened up about the possibility of Swipe Crime 2.
Yes, I have a process. Before making a video, I always check up on the current trend, such as trending audio and video. I have been in the industry of this social media for a long time so I know what a meme is. Based on the trending meme, audio, and video, I make a base cut and then I edit it frequently. Then I copy the base layer of the video and on the third of fourth day, the style and design get ready.
Bougainvillea, Identity, Rekhachithram, and more popular thrillers are available on OTTplay Premium!
I always make sure to pick those topics that I feel will entertain my audience. At this point, I know what my audience likes about my content. I made a reel on Urvashi Rautela where only she is speaking, but recently I did a reel where there are many characters, so I keep experimenting with the varieties.
Deepak Kalal (social media personality and internet celebrity, who gained some recognition for his videos, including one titled Modiji me aapko pappi dunga). He dm'ed me and asked me to mimic him and I said, "Sir, I already made a video on you." I made a video on him, not like a proper one but it was a clip of him in the video so I sent it to him and he liked it a lot.
I recently went to an award show (OTTplay Awards 2025) and Aparshakti Khurana said that he likes my videos a lot. I also talked to Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday. Rakhi ma'am also commented on one of my videos.
I really want to meet Alia (Bhatt) ma'am. I did a Gangubai Kathiawadi video of her, and it made me feel "okay, I am doing something," and I started having fun making videos after that. I see her as an inspiration and watched a lot of her movies and I like her a lot.
My most proud video would be Gangubai one. I like this one a lot. Apart from this, I have a lot of viral reels, such as the Ambani one that crossed 160 million views, so I am really proud of that.
I tend to seek peace a lot when I am not creating content. I go out for dinner with my friends and since I am a college student, I am busy with that stuff too. People know I do acting but nobody saw me playing an actual character that I do in my college.
When I started off, I wanted to become an actor because in school, we did not know what we should do, so around class 10 or 11, I started creating content because everybody was making it. After that, I was supposed to go to a fashion college because I am good at art and craft, but then I thought I needed to go to Mumbai for content creation because this city is a hub for all of this. I realized that acting is the next step in what I am doing. For content creation, I did not have such a goal, but I never left that passion, and it became a part of me.
I have my friends who keep me stay grounded.
I am really not in favour of that because in my opinion, I belong to a community of traditional artist who draw. I think those traditional artists who are drawing it with their hands have put their emotions into it. I am also an artist and I do not like this.
For now, computers can never take over human ideas because whatever we (content creators) make will be a copy only. I feel like it is not harmful as of now, as we are making a lot of content, giving our twists and posting them. But I have seen that there are AI-generated content creators who are not actually human, so people can get catfished by them because they are not actually people. So that is the only dangerous part of AI currently.
Ronit has made his acting debut with Amazon MX Player's Swipe Crime. In the exclusive interview, we have asked whether there will be a Season 2 or not and how was his working experience in the first season.
I always wanted to become an actor since childhood. I got an opportunity to play a role in the series, Swipe Crime. I have not done such a large project before, and always worked on sets for small ones. Then I saw set and professional actors working on the sets, and it was really overwhelming, and I tried my best. My working experience was really fun, and after Swipe Crime, I started to feel that I could work more in front of the camera.
Ronit smiled and said, "Yeah. There is a possibility of season 2. I will not reveal much but yeah there must be a season 2."
My advice for young creators would be that the content creation is a matter of long process. So create content that you feel like making because it is a long journey. Have fun while making your content and bring uniqueness to your content that has the potential to become viral.
