Vardhaan Puri, the grandson of late legendary actor Amrish Puri, recently starred in Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story. After making his debut with Yeh Saali Aashiqui, the actor did a couple of movies. His latest project premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on February 11, 2025. During the film's promotions, OTTplay did an exclusive interview with Vardhaan, who spoke about his grandfather. The actor revealed one thing he learned from his grandpa's career trajectory while discussing his hard work.
In conversation with us, Vardhaan Puri revealed he learned to be extremely focused on work to go far in his career. "As an actor, you need to stay away from distractions and you have to be very versatile. You have to constantly work on your craft. You can't take it for granted. You can't say, now I'm at this level, now it's fine," he shared while recalling how hard his grandfather worked.
The actor further reminisced that he often observed the kind of effort the legendary actor put into his films. "I used to see him coming home at 2:30-3 am and I never saw him sleeping. Anytime you walk into his room, he would be rehearsing his lines, wearing his costume. He would wear the costume shoes and walk around. And I would ask, 'Dadu, why are you walking in these shoes?' (He would say) 'I want to be comfortable in these shoes. They have to seem like mine. They can't seem like they were given to me by the costume department'," revealed Vardhaan.
The 34-year-old also mentioned that his grandfather would put his clothes in a suitcase (to be carried in a scene) to ensure that it doesn't look empty when he swings it. He went on to recall that the legendary actor would do his voice exercise and yoga as well.
On a concluding note, Vardhaan recollected his grandfather's early morning rehearsals at home. "'He would do his dialogues and tell me, 'Son, sit here. This is the script. Give me the cues, I'm rehearsing'. It used to be around 4:30 or 5 am and I would wonder, 'Dadu, you came at 2:30?' He would say 'Son, I started my career in films at 41. I have very little time and I have a lot of work to do'."
The actor signed off by saying that he saw his grandfather work hard to 'get where he got' in his career. He also believes that one must work hard to achieve great things.
