Aag (1948)

Kewal (Raj Kapoor) harbours a dream of opening a theatre company with his childhood love, Nimmi (Kamini Kaushal), but she is unable to join him on the journey. This childhood romance, however haunts his fantasies and Kewal searches for Nimmi in other women when he grows up. Defying his parents who want him to study law, he sets out to fulfil his dream and meets an owner of a closed down theatre company, Rajan (Prem Nath). They strike up a creative partnership and kick off their venture. Kewal casts a homeless woman (Nargis) to play the lead in his plays. But an unfortunate love triangle threatens to break them apart. Not wanting to sabotage his relation with his mentor and friend, Raj lights up his face on fire. Not only is he disfigured, but the fire also spreads to the stage and the entire production company burns down.
