Anandi Gopal

Directed by Samir Vidwans, Anandi Gopal is a 2019 Biopic of Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi starring Bhagyashree Milind, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Atharva Phadnis & Lalit Prabhakar. Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi ( 1865-1887), the first Indian woman to study Western medicine and graduate with a two year program in medicine from Pennsylvania. She did the unexpected in her life duration of 21 years. Anandibai was married at the age of 9 to Gopalrao, a postal clerk and a widowed man, almost 20 years older than her. Gopalrao started homeschooling Anandibai and played a major role in helping her achieve the extraordinary. She succumbed to tuberculosis in 1887, a year after coming back to India after her graduation.
