Adapted from the well-loved 1970 novel of the same name by Judy Blume, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret is an American coming-of-age comedy-drama film written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig starring performances from Rachel McAdams, Abby Ryder Fortson, Elle Graham, Benny Safdie and Kathy Bates in lead roles. In the 49 years since its publication, author Judy Blume finally allowed for an adaptation of the book, which is set in the original 1970s backdrop. The film follows eleven-year-old Margaret Simon as she moves from New York to New Jersey and experiences the tumultuous and confusing journey of early adolescence. Anxious about many things outside her control, Margaret solace in sharing her concerns with God in a conversational manner. As the pressures of puberty approach her, Margaret learns valuable lessons about herself and where she stands in relation to the world. With music by Hans Zimmer and cinematography by Tim Ives, the film captures the essence of agonizing girlhood in the 1970s. The film had its world premiere at the San Francisco International Film Festival and received critical acclaim worldwide.
