Devdas (2002) was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali which is a romantic drama based on the old Devdas written in 1917 by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The movie revolves around the life of Devdas (Shah Rukh Khan), Parvati "Paro" Chakraborty (Aishwarya Rai) and Chandramukhi (Madhuri Dixit). Devdas comes back from London and meets Paro, his childhood friend but starts to fall in love with her. Paro too loves him and Sumitra, Paro’s mother (Kirron Kher) publicity tells Kaushalya, Devdas’ mother (Smita Jaykar) that she wants the two to get married. Kaushalya disagrees and publicly shames them. In anger and haste, Sumitra sets Paro’s wedding with Thakur Bhuvan Chaudhry (Vijayendra Ghatge). He is a forty-year-old widower aristocrat with three grown children. Paro gets married and moves in with her new husband. Heartbroken, Devdas moves into a brothel where he meets a tawaif (courtesan) named Chandramukhi (Madhuri Dixit). Chandramukhi falls in love with Devdas who is still in love with Paro. Devdas drinks even though he knows he will die after that. He goes to meet Paro but collapses at the gate. Paro runs to the man but is stopped by Bhuvan and the last thing that leaves Devdas’ mouth was “Paro”.
