Highway

Highway, a 2014 movie, is directed by Imtiaz Ali. It is a crime-drama and romantic picture starring Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda in the leads.  The movie is inspired by Stockholm Syndrome, which involves the kidnapper and the kidnapped experiencing feelings for each other.  Veera Tripathi, is the daughter of a rich businessman in Delhi. She gets abducted by Mahabir Bhati off a highway, a day before her marriage. Although the first few days, Veera struggles with the kidnappers, as days pass by, she is more comfortable than the kidnappers and experiences freedom than she ever had in her home.  Later, she confides her kidnapper and shares about her childhood when she was sexually abused by her uncle. While the journey is on track, Veera learns about Mahabir’s terrifying childhood as well. Mahabir was abused by his father during his childhood and his mother was used as a sex slave. Towards the end of the movie, Mahabir and Veera find love and comfort in each other, but one morning, it changes into a nightmare when police find them. Mahabir gets shot by the police, which leaves Veera emotionally shattered.
