With Isai, director S.J. Surya comes up with a thriller movie involving musical drama and psychological elements. This Tamil movie stars the director himself in the lead, along with debutant Sulagna and Sathyaraj. The plot of this follows an established musician who grows to become jealous of his assistant after he receives recognition and fame, which initiated psychological revenge, planning, and plotting. The film had received mixed reviews with the consideration that this is not Surya’s finest movie. For this musical background film, Surya had approached A.R. Rahman regarding the music for this movie. However, A.R.Rahman turned down the offer by implying that S.J.Suryah should become music director for Isai.
