Mahalaya

Mahalaya is a 2019 Bengali language film directed by Soumik Sen starring Subhomoy Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, Saptarishi Ray & Subhasish Mukherjee The story is about the popular radio show ‘Mohishashur Mordini’ which used to run from 1929 until 1976 when some of the popular artists recreated the show. The recreated show couldn’t get the same response and hence the radio channel had to go back to playing the older version which airs to date with the same format. The movie gives a wonderful glimpse into Bengali culture. Mahishashur Mardini dictates the arrival of Durga Puja in Bengal and that is the reason why it is so relevant in the hearts of locals.
