Moothon

Moothon is a 2019 Indian Malayalam language film directed by Geetu Mohandas. This is a crime drama film which follows the story of a fourteen year old child, Mulla, who lives on the island of Lakshadweep. Mulla’s a girl who dresses as a boy. Mulla soon leaves the island to find his brother, Akbar, in the city of Mumbai. Akbar is a goon who takes drugs and does illegal activities. Akbar’s men catch Mulla in the city and decide to take him in their gang. Soon, Mulla tells about his motives to Akbar. Akbar realizes that Mulla is his own sister. Akbar’s own background story is shown and is heartbreaking as he fell in love with a mute man and their love story couldn’t thrive. Akbar left the island to come to Mumbai. As the film progresses, we realize that Akbar is in deep trouble and people are also looking for Mulla to sell her as her true identity is of a girl. Towards the end we see Mulla accepting her true identity living with a transgender woman in the chawls of Mumbai.
