Pinjar is a 2003 Indian period drama film. It is directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and stars Manoj Bajpai alongside Urmila Mantodkar. The film is based on a Punjabi novel that goes by the same name and is written by Amrita Pritam. The film is set during the time of partition in the year 1947. It follows the story of a young woman Puro who leads a happy life with her family and is going to marry Ramchand, a boy from a well-doing family. But everything is changed when she is kidnapped by Rashid in order to settle some old scores. She even managed to escape but her family refused to accept her and with no choice left, she went back to Rashid and the two got married. After some days, the news of partition came and there was hustle-bustle all around. Some managed to leave safely whereas some were stuck in the riots. Ramchand along with his parents and sister, Lajjo was also stuck. Things got scarier when Lajjo was kidnapped. But she was rescued by Puro and Rashid. Ramchand and his family were ready to leave for India and he confessed his love to Puro and asked to come along. But, Puro refused and stayed happily married with Rashid.
