Raincoat is a 2004 Indian drama film directed by Rituparno Ghosh. It stars Ajay Devgn and Aishwarya Rai.
The movie follows the life of Mannu, a man from Bhagalpur who recently lost his job in the jute mills. He is trying to start a new business and is looking for financing as he is not financially stable currently. In his search for financing, he meets Neeru. Neeru and Mannu were engaged six years earlier but the engagement broke off due to some reasons.
The two reminisce their happy old days and talk about their current life. The two pretend to lead a happy life but in reality, both are facing problems. As they are talking, it starts to rain outside, therefore, Neeru wears a raincoat and goes out to get some vegetables. She finds a letter in the raincoat revealing Mannu’s current situation. On the other hand, Neeru’s landlord tells Mannu about her financial condition.
Mannu leaves some money along with a letter under Neeru’s bed and Neeru leaves her gold bangles in the raincoat’s pocket along with a letter. The two went on their own path after this sweet encounter.
