The Big Short

The Big Short is a 2015 American English - language film directed by Adam McKay. It is a biographical comedy - drama film starring Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt. The film is based on Michael Lewis’s 2010 book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine. The film shows how the financial crisis of 2007–2008 in the US was triggered by the United States housing bubble. The movie is especially noted for the unconventional techniques it undertakes to explain financial instruments to the general public. In 2008, Wall Street guru Michael Burry discovered the fact that a number of subprime home loans are in danger of defaulting. Burry bets against the housing market by throwing more than $1 billion of his investors' money into credit default swaps. These actions taken by him attracted special attention from banker Jared Vennett, hedge-fund specialist Mark Baum and other greedy opportunists. All these opportunistic men come together in order to make a fortune by taking the full advantage of the impending economic collapse in America.
