The Little Mermaid is a live-action adaptation of the 1989 Disney animated film of the same name. It revolves around the underwater fantasy land of Atlantica ruled by King Triton. Triton's youngest daughter Ariel is a curious and free-spirited mermaid who is endlessly fascinated by humans. Despite the strict prohibition on fraternising with humans, Ariel rescues the drowning Prince Eric one night and falls in love with him. Her desire to explore the human world drives her into the vicious arms of sea witch Ursula, who makes her a devilish trade that jeopardises her life in Atlantica. Written by David Magee and directed by Rob Marshall, the film is produced by Marc Platt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, John DeLuca and Rob Marshall. Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Daveed Diggs, Javier Bardem, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay and Noma Dumezweni feature in prominent roles.
