The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is a 2002 English - language film directed by Peter Jackson. It is an epic fantasy adventure film which stars Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin and Cate Blanchett. This film is the third installment in the Lord of the Rings series of films. The movie continues the quest of Frodo and the Fellowship to destroy the One Ring. It is soon discovered by Frodo and Sam that they are being followed by the mysterious Gollum. Meanwhile, Aragorn, the Elf archer Legolas, and Gimli the Dwarf meet the besieged Rohan kingdom.
