A Kannada psychological thriller film, Upendra depicts an interesting plot related to human needs and posing it as metaphorically where Naanu is an arrogant man who is also a misogynist. The movie explores three emotions via three females and their relationships with Naanu.

This Kannada movie won the Filmfare Award for Best Movie and Best Director. Even though the concept of this movie emanated controversy regarding Upendra's arrogant character in the movie, Upendra became the biggest hit in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
