Dalquer Salmaan was chosen as the lead to act as an aspiring chef for the movie Ustad Hotel. This Malayalam film falls under the romance and drama genre, which was directed by Anwar Rasheed and emerged in the year 2012. Faisal, also called by his nickname Faizi, is an aspiring chef who is forced to work as a cook in his grandfather's restaurant after his father stopped him from taking up a job in the UK. The movie revolves around food and its nuances which were metaphorically used for the transformation of the characters and the levels over the film. Claims were aroused after the release for Ustad Hotel to have a resemblance to the 2009 German comedy film "soul kitchen" and 2019 "today's special." The idea of the movie came to Anjali from the very affection and quality of the local culture of Kazhikodans(Kochi). The movie fell into love Jihad controversies as well, stating that the plot involves a Hindu boy falling in love with a Muslim girl, which was proved wrong after the release.
