10 years of Demonte Colony: Director Ajay Gnanamuthu says ‘nightmare isn't over yet'

On the 10th anniversary of Tamil horror thriller film Demonte Colony starring Arulnithi in the lead role, director Ajay Gnanamuthu penned a note about the film franchise he has created, and how the news on the third part will soon be out. For those who don’t know, the filmmaker made his directorial debut with Demonte Colony way back in 2015, which opened to positive reception. Following this, he made the second part, titled Demonte Colony 2, with Arulnithi in 2024.

While horror films are sparse in Tamil cinema, director Ajay Gnanamuthu’s debut, Demonte Colony, opened to positive response. After making films like Cobra and Imaikkaa Nodigal, the director revisited the genre to make the sequel of Demonte Colony. With 10 years having passed since the release of the first part, Ajay penned a special note.

“My debut ‘Demonte Colony’ was a reflection of my Pre-Directorial phase as ‘Horror’ films enriched my excitement as an audience in the theaters. I always feel the classic horror films like The Exorcist, The Omen & The Conjuring Franchise will forever remain unforgettable memories for all cinema lovers. I am no exception as I was so much inclined to this world of rare creations, that propelled me to push my boundaries and create a world of ‘Demonte Colony’ that would do due justice to ‘Horror’ genre,” he wrote.

As he thanked everyone who made it possible, the filmmaker also said that with the ‘colossal reception” received for both the films in the ‘DC Legacy’, the team is striving to make a ‘chilling theatrical experience’ with Demonte Colony 3. He signed off by saying that the official news on the third part will come as the 'nightmare isn't over yet'

Where to watch Demonte Colony 1 and 2 on OTT?

Both parts of the film franchise are available on OTTplay Premium. The first part revolves around four friends who enter a cursed mansion in the Demonte Colony area and retrieve a cursed necklace, creating havoc in their lives. The sequel follows the ill fates of Debbie (played by Priya Bhavani Shankar) and Arulnithi’s character from the first part, crossing paths, as they have to face the cursed spirits of Demonte Colony.
