On May 9, 2025, the beloved film Piku, directed by Shoojit Sircar, will make its triumphant comeback to theatres, marking a touching tribute to the 10th anniversary of its charming legacy. Theatres around India will re-release the 2015 comedy-drama in celebration of its decade of release. The film won over viewers with its touching storyline, likeable protagonists, and subtle humour.

Deepika Padukone announces Piku re-release

Deepika Padukone, who played the lead part, made the announcement. "A film that will always have my heart – 'PIKU' is back in theatres on 9th May, 2025, to celebrate its 10th anniversary!" the actor wrote on Instagram alongside the news, adding a touch of nostalgia. She also remembered the late actor Irrfan Khan by writing, "Irrfan, we miss you! And think about you every so often…".

Padukone's touching tribute did warm the hearts of the fans, particularly because it remembered the late Irrfan Khan, whose complex portrayal of Rana Chaudhary is still well-loved. Many fans of Khan's on-screen work anticipate a range of emotions in the re-release.

Piku: Heartwarming journey

Piku is a Shoojit Sircar film about an architect (Deepika Padukone) and her hypochondriac father (Amitabh Bachchan), which follows their eccentric yet profoundly moving journey. In this film, a journey from Delhi to Kolkata serves as a backdrop for contemplations on family, ageing, autonomy, and the unsaid ties that bind us to our parents.

The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film Piku made Rs. 141 crore globally after its May 8, 2015, release. The uplifting portrayal of family dynamics and the realistic acting from the brilliant cast earned it high marks. Bachchan won his fourth National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance as Bhaskor.

Nostalgic big-screen experience for fans

The film, which features Raghubir Yadav, Moushumi Chatterjee, and Jisshu Sengupta among others, is available on Sony LIV (OTTplay Premium) and continues to garner strong viewership. But for movie buffs and die-hard fans, seeing Piku on the big screen again, after a decade since its initial debut, is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

As audiences prepare for this throwback cinematic moment, Piku returns to commemorate both the enduring power of storytelling and the irreplaceable impact of Irrfan Khan.
