Kannada actor Rakshit Shetty has been working on the script of his return to direction, Richard Anthony, for a while. In fact, only a year ago, on the day of the Karnataka State assembly elections Rakshit had voted and then taken off to the US for over a month, which he said at the time was to work on the final draft of the script of Richard Anthony. In the time since, Rakshit has said multiple times that he is still working on the script and even now, it is not clear if he has a final version that’s locked and loaded, ready to be taken on floors.

Richard Anthony is based on Rakshit’s directorial debut, Ulidavaru Kandanthe – more specifically, his character from the film. The actor had earlier told us that he would need at least a year and half from start of shoot to bringing it to theatres and calculated a possible mid-2025 release for the film. But as of today, on the 10th anniversary of Ulidavaru Kandanthe, a day on which fans were hoping to finally get an update on the film, Rakshit said otherwise.

In a social media post, the actor-filmmaker said, “The special day deserved a bigger announcement as Richard Anthony is in the pipe line. But I am saving it for another day.” While this disappointed fans, many remained hopeful that an announcement could still be imminent, within a couple of weeks, or latest by Rakshit’s birthday on June 6.

Richard Anthony is meant to kick off a string of Rakshit Shetty directorials. He has repeatedly spoken about a few stories that he absolutely has to get off his chest and bring to the big screen, including a two-part Punyakoti and Mid-way to Moksha. With Kirik Party 2, he said, he has other plans, which will most likely be about reviving it with a new team.
