The popular filmmaker called it a film ‘extremely special’ to him and expressed disbelief at the number of years gone by since it was released.

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is arguably one of the most prominent highlights in prolific Bollywood director Karan Johar’s stellar career which spans over two decades. Today, as the classic romantic drama turns 15, the cast and Karan have put up nostalgia-inducing posts on their social media in celebration of the seasoned film’s milestone.
Karan took to his social media with a montage of the movie followed by a heartfelt caption. In it the director calls Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, abbreviated to KANK as an ’extremely special’ film, reminiscing about the memories the cast and crew made on its sets. He ends the note giving cheers to the kind of love that’s so powerful in strength, one cannot simply say ‘Alvida to it. In a previous post in celebration of the movie completing 12 years, KJo had talked about the polarised responses the film had opened do but had ultimately become better understood in the present times. He had also talked about how the film featured his ‘dream cast’.

In addition to the established filmmaker, other important members of the film had also chimed in to show their love and admiration for the cherished film. One of KANK’s stars, Abhishek Bachchan, had shared a poster of the film to his Instagram stories, calling the 15 years that have gone by since it first hit screens as a journey. He also added that one could never say goodbye to the nostalgia the movie left in its wake. Apoorva Mehta, CEO of Dharma Productions had also shared a tribute to the film, lavishing praise on the ‘special’ people behind it.
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna explores the complicated themes of love, loyalty and adultery through its four main protagonists emulated by a stellar cast consisting of Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta. Although the screenplay and direction of the film were lauded, some critics did express dissatisfaction with some elements such as the use of certain Bollywood clichés and the film’s length. The film did very well at the box office and remains a fan favourite to this day.
