Dasavathaaram is one of the films in which Kamal Haasan played the role of a villain. The actor had undergone various getup changes for his 10 different types of roles. From essaying a cop named Balaram Naidu, to an old lady in search of her lost son, Kamal Haasan had indeed pushed boundaries to don different make-up and costumes to bring authenticity to the roles.

The film took about three years to make. Produced by V Ravichandran, cinematographer Ravi Varman shot the film and was edited by K. Thanigachalam. The soundtrack was composed by Himesh Reshammiya, while the musical score was composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
