Many people are still surprised to learn that Anurag Kashyap directed an animated film, specifically Return of Hanuman. The plot of the 2007 action-adventure appeared to take inspiration from Hanuman (2005). Toonz Animation and Percept Picture Company's Shailendra Singh were in charge of production, while Tapas Relia was in charge of music. The Indian market saw its debut on December 28, 2007.
The animated film Return of Hanuman follows Lord Hanuman on his quest to vanquish evil in the present day. Seeing a little boy in his village tormented by some local thugs, Hanuman vows to save the youngster—but in order to do so, he must transform into a human. Hanuman becomes the son of the Bajrangpur village priest after consulting with Lord Brahma. See Lord Hanuman's exploits in his human form by watching the film.

Anurag Kashyap, who directed Return of Hanuman, criticised the film in 2019, calling it "a terrible film" and admitting that he was "incapable of doing animation." The filmmaker-actor expressed his disapproval of the film on X, a platform formerly known as Twitter. He urged his followers to check out Dhap, one of Geetanjali Rao's films, and the Japanese Ramayan, on which the man behind Hanuman participated, if they are in the mood for some top-notch animation. In any case, he claimed that he is not proficient at animation.
Kashyap continued by stating that there was potential for improvement and that it was, at most, a missed opportunity. But the screenplay was fantastic, and it was capable of so much more. First and foremost, his professional opinion as a filmmaker is that the screenplay lacked consistency.
Not only that, but Return of Hanuman was Anurag's second feature film. In 2007, the director's films Return of Hanuman, Black Friday, and No Smoking were all released.
Return of Hanuman is available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar, Prime Video, and ShemarooMe (OTTplay Premium).
