Before the Dutton family had to face off against people trying to pry their lands away, much more menacing threats loomed upon them. The official trailer of Yellowstone’s prequel series, 1883, was unveiled recently which promises viewers the exciting origin story of the Duttons in the Wild West
The trailer opens with scenes reminiscent of old Western classics, horse-drawn carriages, scorched deserts and sunsets, and of course, a violent shootout. Viewers are introduced to James Dutton, presumably the Dutton family patriarch. He awaits the arrival of his whole family, and the whole group sets off with a caravan in search of a place where they can lay down roots.
But the journey is far from smooth as the family has to confront more than a few perils in their path, from dangerous dacoits to treacherous river crossings to some villainous fellow travellers. It remains to be seen just how the close-knit family manage to shake off the trauma the journey will surely award them, to reach the prosperity that awaits.
The show is a prequel to the Kevin Costner starrer Yellowstone, which revolved around the tale of a family defending their land in the face of an encroachment threat. Yellowstone can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
1883 stars Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Billy Bob Thornton, Isabel May and Lamonica Garrett. The upcoming series is created by Taylor Sheridan, who was also co-creator of the prequel show. 1883 will premiere on Paramount+ on December 19, 2021.
