On April 1, 2021, Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s third collaboration with Hombale Films and his second with director Santhosh Ananddram, Yuvarathnaa, released in theatres. The film, which explored the evil’s of privatisation of education, boasted an ensemble cast, including Prakash Raj, Dhananjaya, Diganth, Tarak Ponappa, Sonu Gowda, Prakash Belawadi, Achyuth Kumar, Sadhu Kokila, Rangayana Raghu, Sai Kumar, among many others, and brought Sayyeshaa to Kannada cinema as Puneeth’s love interest.

Unfortunately for the team of the film, only a day after its release, the then Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced that the government would be restricting theatre capacity to 50% again. The film got one week at the box office at 100% capacity, and when restrictions came in, the team decided to move the film to OTT then, while keeping it in select movie halls also. Yuvarathnaa was released on Amazon Prime Video on April 9.

Today, as the film marks two years of its release, Power Star fans got nostalgic on social media. “2 years for blockbuster #yuvarathnaa The movie which made us more proud of being appu sir fan. One of the best climax tributes ever seen and thanks @SanthoshAnand15 anna,” wrote one fan. Another added, “Two years for #Yuvarathnaa 🥺❤️This movie in theatres satisfied me completely Fans show went crazy for #Feelthepower Tqs @SanthoshAnand15 for those lines.” “Yuvarathnaa was about Appu sir’s class acting, Santhosh anna’s direction and Thaman’s emotional music,” wrote a third.

Several fans wrote how Yuvarathnaa FDFS was the first time in more than a year since they’d woken up early to catch an early morning show for a star. Social media was flooded with images of the late actor from the film, with accompanying posts about how well it did at the box office, despite the pandemic.

Puneeth was meant to collaborate with Santhosh yet again, but that was not to be, as the actor tragically passed away in October 2021, succumbing to a massive cardiac arrest. Santhosh is now working on the launchpad of Puneeth’s nephew, Yuva Rajkumar, the son of Raghavendra Rajkumar.

Yuvarathnaa is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
