Anil Sharma's epic romantic film, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha completes twenty years since its release today. On the occasion, speaking to an entertainment portal, the Gadar director revealed that the film had been turned down by many high-profile actresses as they felt that neither the film nor lead actor Sunny Deol matched up to their standards.

In his recent interaction with Bollywood Bubble, when asked to comment on whether the rumour of Kajol rejecting the film was true, the director chose not to react and explained that naming any particular actress who rejected the film would not be right. He however disclosed that several leading actresses turned down the film as they did not see the potential in it.

Anil Sharma told the portal, "I don't want to name anyone, it's not right. The media is free to name anyone. But we approached several top actresses of the time. Some felt that we weren't up to their standards, they felt Sunny Deol 'sahab' wasn't up to their standards; they felt they were too big for us. They felt we weren't 'trendy'. They didn't even listen to the story."

Sharing some more details, he revealed that several actresses whom he narrated the script felt that it was a period film and required them to get dirty since those were the days when movies were shot internationally.

Claiming that the movie was destined to fall in Amisha Patel's kitty, Sharma said, "They used to tell us to make youth-oriented films. They'd make some excuse or the other. Perhaps it isn't their fault."

On the work front, Sharma is excited to bring back the three generations of the Deols for Apne 2, a sequel to their previous venture Apne.
