It's been 20 years since Karan Johar's blockbuster film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham hit the big screens. The movie was the filmmaker's second outing as a director and included an ensemble and magnificent cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor Khan. As the film clocks two decades since its release, KJo released a video where he took a trip down memory lane and thanked everyone for making it special.
In the video, Karan states, "A film is a journey, a memory that is indispensable. I sometimes feel like I don't have the words to describe my feelings when it comes to this film. The drama, emotions, and sentiment were something that I grew up on."
On the casting coup of K3G, the ace filmmaker went on to say, "Music and dance are without a doubt the bed and blanket of Bollywood. But perhaps this wasn't something I was stressed about. The true challenge was justifying the icons that were cast in the film. The icons that I was bringing together on cellular were Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, living legends, the eternal duo of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, who have been dearest to my heart since my very first film, and, of course, the trendsetters of that era, Hrithik and Kareena, who continue to be even today."
He added, "So many years later, I still hear people having Shava Shava, Bole Chudiyan at family functions and wedding celebrations. How the theme of this film deeply resonates with so many hearts across the world."
Johar also praised the technicians, stating, "The nostalgia takes me back to the spectacular locations we shot at. Larger than life was the foundation of every set designed by Sharmishta Roy. The costumes by my dearest friend, the ever-dependable and supremely talented Manish Malhotra, set fashion trends that exist still today. Each sequence was beautifully conceptualized by our Director of Photography, Kiran Deohans."
K3G is indeed a part of pop culture and talking about the same, the director shared, "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham has become a part of pop culture. It's dialogues that find their way into everyday conversations."
The hook steps are unforgettable, and all credit goes to Farah Khan Kunder. Karan added, "The dance moves choreographed their way into school plays, weddings, every kind of celebration, and all due credit goes to the fantastic Farah Khan who made this possible. The music of this film lives on even today."
The video also features a short video by Karan's father, the late producer Yash Johar. The My Name is Khan director concludes the video by expressing his gratitude.
He says, "20 years later, I'm still so happy to have created something that brought so much joy to so many people across the world. I'm forever indebted to the legendary cast, and I'm proud to call them my friends and family. Thank you, everyone, for celebrating this milestone with me. I'm Karan Johar. And I wish all your fans of K3G a very happy 20th anniversary of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham."
