The Tamil version of the film hit screens across Tamil Nadu today
The Tamil dubbed version of the Malayalam survival thriller 2018 hit screens across theatres in Tamil Nadu today. And one of the film's leading stars, Tovino Thomas threw a surprise to his fans by turning up at the First Day First Show of the film at Rohini Silver Screens in Chennai. Accompanying him were the film's director Jude Anthany Joseph and actor Sudheesh.
Interestingly, Desingh Periyasamy, who is all set to direct Silambarasan TR's upcoming project, which is tentatively being referred to as STR 48, also met the cast and crew. STR 48 will be directed under Kamal Haasan's production banner. Desingh Periyasamy had earlier made Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithal, which starred Dulquer Salmaan and Ritu Varma in the lead. He was seen meeting the Tovino Thomas and Jude Anthany Joseph after the show.
The film revolves around the floods that battered Kerala in 2018 and how the entire state came together to help each other in the time of crisis. The film has an ensemble star cast comprising Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Srinivasan, Lal, Narain, Sudheesh, Kalaiyarasan, Aju Verghese, Hari Krishnan, Aparna Balamurali, Tanvi Ram, Sshivada, Gauthami Nair, Siddhique, Renji Panicker, Indrans, Janardhan and Jaffar Idukki to name a few.
Many have called 2018, the true Kerala story. The film opened to positive reviews and became one of the highest grossers in the history of Malayalam cinema, that too within a short span. The film has already surpassed Rs 140 crore within a span of two weeks. To cash in on the popularity, the filmmakers have dubbed the film in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi. The dubbed versions were released today.
2018 has music by Nobin Paul and William Francis, cinematography by Akhil George and editing by Chaman Chakko. The thriller has been bankrolled by Kavya Film Company and PK Prime Production.
