Ajay Devgn is teaming up with Rohit Jugraj for his comeback to horror. Renowned for his versatility in comic, dramatic, and action roles, the star is reportedly venturing into the supernatural realm to portray a villain in his first film in nearly 20 years. This project is a big addition to the actor's varied 2026 slate and is set to start filming in July.
The horror and supernatural thriller genres are familiar to Devgn. Among his notable works are the wildlife-horror flick Kaal from 2005, the Ram Gopal Varma–directed Bhoot from 2003, and the critically acclaimed psychological thriller Shaitaan from 2024. In contrast to Jugraj's prior works, insiders say that his next project will take a fresh approach to the genre. With its gothic architecture, London serves as a fitting setting for this mysterious tale.
Details about the actor's part and the production schedule were revealed by a source close to the development to Mid Day. The source told the tabloid, "Almost 21 years after that horror film, Ajay will play a dark character again in Rohit’s movie. Set in London, the story will have the superstar essaying a brooding and intense character with supernatural powers. He will sport a distinct look in the film. So, he wants to complete his pending assignments before the project rolls."
The actor and director are reuniting for this project. Even though Jugraj is well-known for his work on highly acclaimed Punjabi franchises like Sardaar Ji and Jatt James Bond and the critically acclaimed series Chamak, his career began with Devgn's early horror film. The filmmaker worked with Ram Gopal Varma as an assistant director on the set of Bhoot in the past. Now that he's directing a large-scale supernatural production starring the same actor he used to watch from the sidelines, the filmmaker can finally look back on his career with satisfaction.
Devgn's current calendar is packed with high-profile sequels. He is currently set up in Mumbai to film Golmaal 5, directed by Rohit Shetty. With an expansive ensemble cast that includes Arshad Warsi, Kunal Kemmu, Tusshar Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Shreyas Talpade, and Akshay Kumar, the comedy franchise continues to captivate fans. Up until May of 2026, Devgn will likely be busy with production on this comedy. After this film, the actor's attention will turn to the highly anticipated Drishyam 3. June will be dedicated to patch shots, which will ensure that the thriller is ready for the next steps of post-production.
By the middle of the year, Devgn will have moved on from the comic tone of Golmaal 5 to Jugraj's dark and eerie universe. The source added, “Rohit has begun pre-production on the film. He will call action on it in July and plans to wrap it by the last quarter of 2026. Ajay is also finalising another movie, which he plans to start by November-December.”
The industry is closely monitoring this London-based production, as Shaitaan demonstrated that fans enjoy Devgn's portrayal of otherworldly characters. Exploring the darker parts of Indian cinema, the actor moves from the investigative tension of Drishyam to a menacing character with supernatural abilities, continuing to use his "intense" attitude.
