The Ram Gopal Varma-directed mafia movie Satya celebrated its 25th anniversary on Monday. Satya was opened in theatres on July 3, 1998. Manoj Bajpayee, Saurabh Shukla, Shefali Shah, Makrand Deshpande, Govind Namdeo, and Urmila Matondkar all had significant roles in addition to J.D. Chakravarthy, who played the title role.

As she celebrated 25 years of Satya, Urmila Matondkar became unhappy and made fun of the awards shows. The actress, who portrayed Vidya in the Ram Gopal Varma film, remarked against favouritism on Twitter. She wrote: “25yrs of Satya n of playing simple naive chawl girl Vidya at the peak of an scintillating glamorous career. But NO what did that have to do with ‘acting’.. so no awards n not even nominations. So sit down n don’t talk to me about favouritism n nepotism.. #jastsaying"

The movie Satya went on to become a cult favourite and served as a significant career turning point for Manoj Bajpayee. He was the Best Supporting Career winner of the National Film Award. At the 44th Filmfare Awards, Urmila was nominated for Best Actress but lost to Kajol, who took home the prize for Karan Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

For those who are unaware, Satya was released on July 3, 1998, and it was about a villager who ends up in the underground and turns into a gangster. While Manoj Bajpayee, Urmila Matondkar, Shefali Shah, and Saurabh Shukla all had significant roles, JD Chakravarthy played the lead.
