The Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanjay Dutt biopic titled Sanju completes 3 years today. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial is based on the life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and touches upon multiple phases of his life including his drug addiction, his alleged ties with the 1993 Mumbai blasts, his relationship with his father, friends and girlfriends.

Speaking of the story, director Hirani admitted to Pinkvilla that he was fascinated with Sanjay Dutt’s not so regular life. The controversies related to him were not bound to just the film industry but also involves personal and political issues

To portray Sanjay Dutt on-screen, Ranbir had to go through a heavy transformation to look bulky and huge like Dutt. With lots of rigorous gym training, the actor used to start his day at 3 in the morning and had to eat eight meals in a day. Talking about the same, Ranbir told Pinkvilla, “Sanjay Dutt represents the epitome of bodybuilding and I could not screw that up.”

Vicky Kaushal, who portrayed the role of Sanju’s best friend in the film and bagged a lot of appreciation, expressed his overwhelming response on being cast in the film and in 2019 on the occasion of 1 year of Sanju, he wrote in an Instagram post, “1 year. The first time I heard people calling me by the name of the character. Thank you for all the love. It means a lot to me. #Sanju.”

On the work front, Vicky is done with the shooting schedules of a biographical film titled Sardar Udham Singh and is currently busy filming Sam Bahadur and Mr Lele.

Sanju also features Anushka Sharma, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor and Paresh Rawal in significant roles and can be streamed on Netflix.
