‘Psych trailer, en madidiya guruve?’ That’s what several netizens have been asking debutant director Arjun Janya, after the trailer of his film 45 dropped. The film stars Shivarajkumar, Upendra, Raj B Shetty in the lead, and all that Arjun has done in the trailer, is present a selection of shots that will hint at the scale of the film in terms of making and story-telling, without really giving away anything about the plot. By and large, the trailer has sparked massive intrigue in audiences and while not everyone is convinced about the quality of the visuals, one thing’s for sure, they say. 45, the movie, will either be a blockbuster or it will be the next UI.

UI was Upendra’s much hyped return to direction that released on December 20 last year, and did not fare well at the box office. “45 will either be like KGF or like Kabzaa; nothing in between”, wrote a netizen, while another chimed in, “Either it will be path breaking or another UI, nothing in btw”. A third wrote that 45 feels like UI 2.0.
The film is quite CGI-heavy and Arjun had outsourced the work to a studio in Canada to ensure world-class visuals. In fact, the August 15 release date could not be met because of delays in completion and corrections on submissions, with the filmmaker accepting outputs only when entirely satisfied. Even then, the visuals in the trailer were not all up to the mark. “Few CG shots look bad. Apart from that solid cut. Looks very interesting and creative, without revealing the story,” said a user.
During a recent media briefing about the trailer launch, Arjun had said that he did not include stand-alone songs in the film, as he needed the entire 2 and a half hour duration to do justice to his 3 stars and give each of them mass elevation moments. Upendra’s character, for instance, appears to be the wackiest of the lot. “Mass presence and new avatars for Shivanna and Uppi,” is what netizens believe Arjun is set to present.
Even though Arjun and his team has said there is no question of a clash at the box office with Mark and that both films have their own space, a sentiment that Kiccha Sudeep also echoed, all eyes are now on which film will capture the attention of audiences. If the word-of-mouth for 45 is good, it will catch on, while with Mark, there is an action entertainer template that is in place, and audiences know just what to expect. Which one will emerge victorious? Well, only time will tell.
