45 , the directorial debut of Kannada music director Arjun Janya dropped on OTT on January 23, 2026, but in its original Kannada version only. At the time, netizens had wondered why the other language options were not made available, considering that they were released in theatres on January 1, a week after the original came out. Well, the film, starring Shivarajkumar, Upendra and Raj B Shetty, is now available to stream with Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam audio.
What went wrong with 45?
45 had released for Christmas 2025 and did not have a great theatrical run, with Arjun’s preachy narrative and below average VFX blamed for the underwhelming performance. The film, which the composer-filmmaker came up with after the demise of his brother during the pandemic, is about the death, karma and the afterlife, as laid down in the Garuda Purana. The VFX heavy narrative was let down by the quality of the graphic work, which, the team had outsourced to a Canada-based firm.
The film was about Vinay (Raj B Shetty), who runs over and kills a dog with his bike and is then hunted down by the canine’s owner, Rayappa. The dog meant a great deal to Rayappa and he vows to kill Vinay too, albeit after 45 days, a time during which he goes all out to make life miserable for the latter. While trying to find a way out of being handed a horrible death by Rayappa, Vinay meets Shivappa (Shivarajkumar), who then turns protector.
During the promotions, Arjun had said that the climax of the film would be the standout moment, but, eventually, it was the most trolled one, with netizens not only pointing out that there was little originality to it and seemed inspired from several other films, but also that in trying to save one person, Vinay, Shivappa massacres Rayappa’s entire army.
