The horror-comedy genre has always been popular in Tamil cinema. Sathish-starrer Conjuring Kannappan is the latest film in this category. Directed by debutant Selvin Raj Xavier, the film is now streaming on Netflix in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada.

With Regina Cassandra and Sathish in the lead roles, Conjuring Kannappan revolves around Kannappan and his family, who get haunted by voodoo and their challenges to escape a dream world.

The film was directed, produced and written by Raghava Lawrence himself and was a blockbuster installment from his ‘Muni’ franchise.

Starring Suriya, this Venkat Prabhu directorial revolves around a con artist who, after a life-threatening accident, can communicate with the dead. However, he must decide whether to act on their advice or not during one encounter. Suriya played a double role in the film, which was a hit. The movie also stars Nayanthara, Pranitha Subhash, Premgi, Parthiban and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles.

Yaamirukka Bayamey

Directed by Deekay, this Krishna starrer revolves around a haunted mansion and a group of youngsters. It is a classic horror comedy in which the characters are haunted by ghosts they are unaware of. Although the theme of the film is used in several films of this genre, this movie stands out for its humour and quality performances.

This GV Prakash starrer revolves around three friends who, due to their personal failures, decide to end their lives but later realise that the place they are at is haunted. The film was a commercial success; however, it did not impress critics, who said it was a ripoff of the Thai film Pee Mak (2013). Nonetheless, Darling is a good watch for its comedy and music.

DD Returns

DD Returns or Dare Demon Returns is helmed by debutant director S Prem Anand. It has an ensemble cast, with Santhanam and Surbhi in the lead roles and Redin Kingsley, Maran and Pradeep Rawat in supporting roles. The plot revolves around a group of friends who hide a bag full of money and jewels in a haunted bungalow to escape getting caught by the cops. When they try to retrieve the bag, a ghost makes them play a survival game.
