Malayalam news channels have been saying that veteran actor Mammootty is in a neck-and-neck race with Asif Ali for the Best Actor Award. Mammootty’s terrific portrayal as Kodumon Potti in Bramayugam could win him yet another Kerala state award. Asif Ali, on the other hand, impressed with performances in a bunch of films, including Kishkindha Kaandam. Mohanlal too finds a spot on the list for Malaikottai Vaaliban, the Lijo Jose Pellissery film which failed to impress the fans at the time of its release. Others who are said to be on the list include Fahadh Faasil for Aavesham, and Tovino Thomas for Ajayante Randam Moshanam (ARM).

Shamla Hamsa who led the acclaimed Feminichi Fathima is said to be in contention for Best Actress. Other names include Kani Kusruthi and Divya Prabha for All We Imagine as Light, which won accolades at Cannes. Nazriya Nazim also finds a spot for her film Sookshmadarshini, which marked her return to the big screen after 4 years. Surabhi Lakshmi, who played Manikyam in Tovino’s ARM, has also made it to the final round, as per Manorama News. Anaswara Rajan is also a strong contender for her performance in Rekhachithram, starring Asif Ali.
Mammootty’s Bramayugam is also said to be in contention for Best Film, along with Feminichi Fathima which interestingly is backed by his son Dulquer Salmaan. Victoria is another film in contention.
The most popular film too seems to be a tough choice with the likes of Manjummel Boys, and Kishkindha Kaandam in a tough race. Ajayante Randam Moshanam, Naslen's rom-com Premalu and even the brutal actioner Marco, starring Unni Mukundan, are said to have made it to the shortlist.
