Here are some of the must-watch anthologies streaming on OTT platforms:

Putham Pudhu Kaalai (Amazon Prime)

Putham Pudhu Kaalai comprises five short films that focus on new beginnings in life during the COVID-19 pandemic. The tales of hope and love is the essence of this 2020 anthology. Starring an exciting cast including Jayaram, Urvashi, Kalidas Jayaram, Kalyani Priyadarshan, MS Bhaskar, Ritu Varma, Shruti Haasan and Suhasini Maniratnam, the stories are helmed by five directors.

I Am (Disney+ Hotstar)

I Am is an anthology of four short films starring some great and critically-acclaimed performers including Kalki Koechlin, Purab Kohli, Nandita Das, Radhika Apte, Arjun Mathur and Rahul Bose. Each of the four stories depicts the struggles of individuals in finding their identity in the world. The short story, featuring Rahul Bose, spoke about Section 377 and gay rights.

Solo (MX Player)

Bejoy Nambiar’s Solo is an experimental anthology with Dulquer Salmaan in the lead. It tells the story of four different people in four different stories (all played by Salmaan). Each story revolves around four elements – Earth, Fire, Wind and Water – and Salmaan’s characters showed the various facets of Lord Shiva.

Paava Kadhaigal (Netflix)

This Tamil anthology explores how love can be infected by pride, honour and sin. Featuring Anjali, Kalki Koechlin, Kalidas Jayaram, Gautham Menon, Prakash Raj, Sai Pallavi, Paava Kadhaigal focuses on topics such as casteism, sexism and honour killing. Like most of the anthologies, this one is also directed by multiple filmmakers.

Pitta Kathalu (Netflix)

Pitta Kathalu is a woman-centric anthology that delivers four stories about the darker side of love including dishonesty, secrets, jealousy and power. The four short films include tales of former spouses, political rivalry, domestic violence and the future stars Amala Paul, Ashwin Kakumanu, Eesha Rebba, Jagapati Babu, Lakshmi Manchu, Sanjith Hegde and Shruti Haasan.

Lust stories (Netflix)

Lust stories is another woman-centric anthology comprising four short films directed by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap. Every story delivers a compelling tale of human desires. The anthology breaks the silence and the stigmas associated with sex.
