It has been six years since the release of the iconic Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, which also marked the directorial debut of filmmaker Mari Selvaraj. Pariyerum Perumal is a social drama starring Kathir and Anandhi in the lead roles.
Pariyerum Perumal is a 2018 Tamil drama, written and directed by Mari Selvaraj. The film is produced by Pa Ranjith under his banner Neelam Productions. The film stars Kathir, Anandhi, Yogi Babu. G. Pariyerum Perumal is about a young man named Pariyan who comes from oppressed caste and wishes to pursue law. However, his friendship with fellow student Anandhi, who comes from dominant caste, gets Pariyan targeted by the latter family. The film highlights the caste oppression and discrimination faced in the society.

Upon its release, Pariyerum Perumal met with highly positive reception and went on to mark Mari Selvaraj as a promising voice to look out for. The film fetched several awards and still hailed as one of the best films of Tamil cinema. The film has music by Santhosh Narayanan and edits by RK Selva. Sridhar has shot the film.
Vaazhai is Mari Selvaraj’s latest film and fourth directorial. The film will be available on Disney+ Hotstar from October 11 onwards. Vaazhai is a social drama inspired from the filmmaker’s childhood. Vaazhai is based on the true events that occurred in Mari Selvaraj’s childhood when he worked in banana plantation fields as a labourer along with his family.
It stars Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, Janaki, and others. Vaazhai too was met with positive reception upon its release. The technical crew consists of cinematographer Theni Eswar and editor Suriya Pradhaman. Santhosh Narayanan has scored the music for the film.
