Kannada actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty’s first release in over three years, 777 Charlie had opened in theatres worldwide to fantastic response. The film, which was the directorial debut of Kiranraj K, was the transformative journey of protagonist Dharma (Rakshit), a loner whose mundane life is all about his home, factory, cigarettes, idlis, beer and picking fights, when he comes across a pup called Charlie.
The film was widely appreciated for its emotional story and made well over Rs 150 crore from its worldwide theatrical revenue and digital and satellite deals. During the film’s 25-days celebration, Rakshit had said that he was apportioning a tidy sum from the film’s profit (10%) to the entire crew and 5% towards the benefit of animal welfare NGOs across the country.
This week, the film celebrates 50 days at the box office, which Rakshit is looking at making extra special for the team that worked tirelessly in putting it together. While the producer-actor is taking his team on a celebratory trip to Thailand, for fans and audiences back home, the occasion will be made special when the film drops on Voot Select to be streamed.
Rakshit had earlier sold two of his films – Sakutumba Sametha and 777 Charlie (the Kannaada version only) to Colors Kannada and Voot Select, respectively, for the satellite and digital rights. Amazon Prime Video picked up the streaming rights of the film in other languages, but no date has been announced yet as to when it will be available. However, now that 777 Charlie will be available in a few hours (12 am, July 29) on Voot Select, it is expected that Amazon Prime Video will also make the film available soon enough.
777 Charlie, produced by Paramvah Studios, is a film that Kiranraj began working on 5-6 years ago. Initially, Rakshit was to only serve as producer, with Aravind Iyer in the lead. But over the course of time, things changed around. The film, which features soul-stirring music by Nobin Paul, also stars Sangeetha Sringeri, Raj B Shetty, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, and Bobby Simha, among others.
