HBO Max is all set to draw 80s kids into the nostalgia of their childhood, and for the younger generation to relive the "retro vibes" of the era. The streaming giant recently dropped the trailer for its latest holiday-themed comedy, 8-Bit Christmas.
The trailer starts with a clip from a home video filmed in 1988, where an American family is seen opening presents on Christmas day. A voiceover reveals that the story is one told by a father in the present day to his young daughter. He narrates how all he wanted that year for Christmas was an NES, a Nintendo gaming system, which, sadly, his parents prohibited him from having.
The rest of the trailer reveals the 11-year-old boy’s arduous journey to get his hands on the video game. After a string of disappointments, he gets one last shot at achieving his dream when competition is announced that offers the game as its grand prize. The trailer, rife with moments of wholesomeness and hilarity, promises a heartwarming tale perfect for the holiday season.
8-Bit Christmas stars Neil Patrick Harris, Winslow Fegley, June Diane Raphael, Steve Zahn and David Cross.
The upcoming film is based on the novel of the same name by Kevin Jakubowski, who has also written the movie’s screenplay. The movie is directed by Michael Dowse.
8-Bit Christmas will be available for streaming on HBO Max from November 24, 2021 onwards.
