The year 2023 had an excellent mix of new TV shows. Then there were some popular TV shows that concluded their final season, while a few unfortunate productions were even cancelled. The dual strikes in Hollywood derailed the plans of several major studios, pushing projects to a later date. But some of the biggest shows have also been confirmed to return for another season in 2024. For today’s List Hai Toh Hai podcast, we have curated a list of eight exciting TV shows which will return with a new season in 2024.

True Detective: Night Country

After a four-year hiatus, the anthology crime drama series, True Detective is returning for a fourth season titled True Detective: Night Country. Issa López replaces series creator Nic Pizzolatto in the upcoming season. Season four stars Hollywood veteran Jodie Foster in the lead as Detective Liz Danvers. She is tasked with investigating several murders in the fictional Alaskan town of Ennis, which is also referred to as Night Country because the nights are literally 24 hours long during winter. The HBO original series will premiere on January 14th 2024 on JioCinema.

House of the Dragon Season 2

The multiple Emmy-nominated series, House of the Dragon is returning for a second season. Showrunner Ryan Condal will take complete responsibility for the series after Miguel Sapochnik’s exit. The plot will showcase the war between Emma D’Arcy’s Rheanyra Targaryen and Olivia Cook’s Alicent Hightower. Season two which is based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood is expected to introduce the fan-favourite house of A Song of Ice and Fire – the Starks of Winterfell. House of the Dragon season two will premiere on JioCinema in the summer of 2024.

The Bear Season 3

One of the biggest hits on TV in recent years is the FX original series, The Bear. Jeremey Allen White reprises his role as Carmy along with Ayo Edebiri returning as Sydney. The third season of the hit series helmed by Christopher Store promises to be chaotic and captivating just like the first two seasons. Season three is expected to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar in 2024.

Tokyo Vice Season 2

Originally slated for a 2023 release, the crime drama series Tokyo Vice is now expected to release in 2024. Created by J. T. Rogers, the series stars Ansel Elgort, Rachel Keller, and Ken Watanabe among others in lead roles. The plot revolves around an American journalist who gets involved with the dangerous underbelly of Tokyo. Tokyo Vice Season 1 is available to stream on OTTplay Premium and Lionsgate Play.

Outlander Season 7, Part II

The acclaimed historical drama series Outlander is returning for the second part of season seven in 2024. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s eponymous novel, the plot revolves around a World War II nurse who is inexplicably transported back in time to 18th-century Scotland in the midst of civil unrest. Developed by Ronald D. Moore, the series stars Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan in lead roles. The series will also return for the eighth and final season, and it will be based on the ninth book Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. The series is available to stream on Netflix.

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2

After several production delays due to the strikes, and most significantly due to the rift between lead star Kevin Costner and showrunner Taylor Sheridan, Yellowstone is finally returning to conclude its fifth and final season. The second part of the season is expected to premiere in November 2024. Fans of the franchise will be happy to know that creator Sheridan is still committed to creating multiple spin-offs in the Yellowstone universe.

Andor Season 2

Disney has not enjoyed great success in recent months. This is largely due to the poor box office performance of their big releases and the lacklustre viewership of their flagship TV shows. But the one programme that stands out in a sea of mediocrity is the Star Wars series. After the commendable conclusion of the first season of Andor, it would have been criminal if the series didn’t receive a second season. It is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is arguably one of the best Star Wars films of all time. The TV show was created by Tony Gilroy and follows the story of the formative years of rebel spy Cassian Andor. Diego Luna plays the titular character while Adria Arjona, Anky Serkis and Stellan Skarsgård among others play prominent characters. Andor season two is expected to release in late 2024 on Disney+ Hotstar.

The Umbrella Academy Season 4

The fan-favourite Umbrella Academy is set to team up again for the fourth and final season of the series, The Umbrella Academy. Created by Steve Blackman, season four puts the heroes in unfamiliar territory as they end up in an alternate timeline where they have been replaced by the Sparrow Academy. The sci-fi action-adventure series will feature returning cast members as well as new faces. The Netflix original series is scheduled to release in 2024.

Well that's all the time we got for this episode, until the next one it's your host Nikhil signing out.
