The Bombay High Court has allowed the OTT release of Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster sports drama 83. The film is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix India.
The court said that Netflix India and Star India (owner of Disney+ Hotstar) have the “antecedent (prior) rights to exploit the film 83 on satellite and digital media for 10 years” in response to Mad Men Film Ventures’ application seeking a stay on the release.
According to Live Law, Mad Men Films had filed an injunction against Reliance Entertainment Studios, Phantom Films, Star India, and Netflix.
The application states that the ownership was divided ownership of intellectual property was divided between itself (37.5%), Reliance Entertainment (37.5%) and Vibri Media, one of the producers of the film (25%).
Senior Advocate Virag Tulzapurkar for Mad Man said that the exploitation rights stayed with the company for 10 years due to which they were entitled to a percentage of the net collection from Reliance Entertainment.
Tulzapurkar said if the payment was not followed through, Mad Man was under no obligation to approve the OTT release of 83.

Deepika Padukone plays Kapil Dev's wife Romi Singh in a cameo appearance.
