'83, the upcoming cricket drama starring Ranveer Singh with an ensemble cast, will be the closing film at Saudi Arabia's Red Sea International Film Festival. The world premiere will be attended by Deepika Padukone, Kapil Dev, and director Kabir Khan writes Deadline.
'83 chronicles the Indian cricket team's historic win against West Indies to claim their first-ever World Cup trophy in 1983. Singh stars as former captain Dev, who led the team at the time of their win.
Also expected to be present at the premiere are Mohinder ‘Jimmy’ Amarnath and Srikanth. The film festival will take place from December 6 to 15.
"I’m beyond excited to unveil ’83 at the Red Sea International Film Festival, the opening of cinemas in Saudi Arabia is a fantastic opportunity for filmmakers in India and across the world. To go on this journey, and to bring the story to screen with legends, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and cricket icon Kapil Dev was like winning the world cup for me," said Khan in a statement as quoted by Deadline.
Bringing the rest of the Indian cricket team to life on screen are Tahir Raj Bhasin (Sunil Gavaskar), Jiiva (Krishnamachari Srikkanth), Saqib Saleem (Mohinder Amarnath), Jatin Sarna (Yashpal Sharma), Chirag Patil (Sandeep Patil), Dinker Sharma (Kirti Azad), Nishant Dahiya (Roger Binny), Harrdy Sandhu (Madan Lal), Sahil Khattar (Syed Kirmani), Ammy Virk (Balwinder Sandhu), Adinath Kothare (Dilip Vengsarkar), Dhairya Karwa (Ravi Shastri), and R Badree (Sunil Valson).
Padukone will be seen as Dev's wife Romi Bhatia, reuniting with Singh after 2018's Padmavaat. Pankaj Tripathi (PR Man Singh) and Boman Irani (Farokh Engineer) are also part of the cast.
'83, one of the most highly-anticipated films of this year, will have a theatrical release in India on December 24. It will be screened in several languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
