The Delhi government declared Ranveer Singh's upcoming sports drama tax-free in the territory on Tuesday.
Director Kabir Khan took to social media to thank Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia for this decision. "Your gesture will able us to propagate the tale of India's greatest victory to a wider audience," wrote Khan.
The film chronicles how the Indian cricket team, captained by Kapil Dev, achieved a landmark victory against the West Indies at the 1983 World Cup.
Besides Singh, the cast includes Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, R Badree and Pankaj Tripathi.
Mint writes that 83 had its world premiere on 15 December at Saudi Arabia's Red Sea International Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation.
Recently, the makers collaborated with NFT Labs, and Social Swag, an influencer-led fan engagement platform to launch the film’s digital collectables on December 23, according to The Indian Express.
The film is set to release in Indian cinemas on December 24 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
