Tanu Weds Manu Returns plot summary

Manu (R. Madhavan) ends up in a mental facility in London after being married to Tanu (Kangana Ranaut) for four years. Tanu returns to Kanpur, leaving Manu's friend Pappi (Deepak Dobriyal) to take care of him. When he gets Manu released from the asylum, they go back to India. Kusum, aka Datto (Kangana Ranaut), a Haryanvi athlete at Delhi University, is Tanu's lookalike; he continues to obsess about his wife Tanu's antics, which cause him grief and sorrow. As Manu develops feelings for Datto, the formerly harsh girl starts to show some signs of tenderness.

On the other hand, Tanu is reuniting with all her ex-boyfriends in her hometown, including Raja Awasthi, Jimmy Shergill's previous engagement partner. In response to Manu's legal notice, Tanu's lawyer secretly files for divorce. The revelation of Datto's supposed marriage to Raja Awasthi sets off a hilarious farce of social faux pas. Anarchy breaks out as soon as Tanu learns that Manu plans to marry Datto.
