Producer and actor Aamir Khan today revealed the official teaser for his next film, Ek Din, and spoke about how personally invested he is in the project. The film, which stars Junaid Khan and South Indian actor Sai Pallavi and was directed by Sunil Pandey, is being marketed as a throwback to the "classic love story" style that characterised the superstar's early work.
By admitting to the press, "Actually, I wanted this to be his first film," Khan provided some background on the film's creation and revealed that he had initially planned for his son Junaid to make his acting debut in it. "But I take time [with production], so things moved differently."
Although Junaid has been in films like Maharaj (2024) and Loveyapa (2025), Khan has stressed that Ek Din—the official adaptation of the 2016 Thai hit One Day—represents a style of storytelling that he has long advocated: one that prioritises gentle, "mushy" emotional beats over high-concept action. Rohan, played by Junaid, is a timid man who falls madly in love with Meera, played by Pallavi, at work. He wishes she could accompany him for even a single day as they are on a business trip to the snowy landscapes of Sapporo, Japan. Fortunately, his request comes true, but only under the condition that the next morning, Meera will forget about the experience.
"Classic, slightly magical love stories" was how Khan characterised the screenplay. He was quite complimentary of the cast, especially Pallavi, who is making her long-awaited debut in Hindi cinema with this movie. "I am so glad we finally went with Sai Pallavi," remarked Khan. "She is such a good actor, and she has done an amazing job."
The decision to release the film on May 1, 2026, involved careful consideration. Releasing Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak on April 29, 1988, marked Khan's Bollywood debut, and he expressed a desire for the film's premiere to occur near the anniversary of that release.
Producing the film alongside Khan is filmmaker Mansoor Khan, marking a notable professional reunion for the two. Notable works in the romantic drama genre include their earlier collaborations with Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Akele Hum Akele Tum.
Khan hinted at the film's soundtrack—composed by Ram Sampath and featuring lyrics by Irshad Kamil—during the trailer preview event. Following a quick preview, the title track, which features Arijit Singh, has already started trending on social media.
To recreate the real feel of the Sapporo Snow Festival, the makers shot a lot of scenes in Japan. Now that the trailer is out, experts predict that Ek Din will capitalise on Pallavi's pan-Indian appeal in India and the nostalgic storytelling style of "Aamir Khan Productions", making it a top contender at the summer box office.
