The songs from Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha are still topping the charts in Tamil. Muthamil, who had written the lyrics for the Tamil album, said he was recommended to the Laal Singh Chaddha team by director RS Prasanna of Shubh Mangal Saavdhan-fame.

"He kept in touch with them, and when they needed someone to write lyrics for the Tamil version, he suggested my name. I made my debut with Kalyana Samayal Saadham's Mella Sirithai song, and I'm grateful to Prasanna for doing this."

Muthamil added that he was clear that the Tamil album wouldn’t be a mere translation of the Hindi version.

"At first, they asked me to write the title song, and they liked it so much that they asked me to write lyrics for the rest of the songs. We had video conferencing recording sessions, which were overseen by Pritam's assistants. When it came to writing the Tamil version, I conveyed that it would not be a word-for-word translation of the Hindi version. I wanted the songs to have a visual connection to what Laal Singh Chaddha was going through," the lyricist explained.

Muthamil met Aamir Khan recently in Chennai and recalled their conversation. "I met him while he was here promoting the film. Even though Aamir didn't understand the lyrics completely, he thought they sounded good. He loved its tone. I was overwhelmed by his words!"

The lyricist stated that his favourite aspect of Laal Singh Chaddha's music was Pritam's strong adherence to traditional music. "I believe that more Tamil films should follow suit. Music in Tamil cinema has recently been heavily Westernised, whereas other language films have largely stuck to their region's flavour of music!"

Muthamil is famous for songs like Tasakku Tasakku (Vikram Vedha), Kannamma (Jigarthanda), Vaa Machchaney (Irudhi Suttru) and so on.

An official Hindi remake of the Tom Hanks-led 1994 Hollywood classic Forrest Gump, Laal Singh Chaddha had a worldwide release on August 11. Written by Atul Kulkarni, the film also features Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh in pivotal roles.
