Aamir Khan on Laal Singh Chaddha: Kareena Kapoor is a dear friend and she also tortures me

Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s Laal Singh Chaddha will hit the theatre on August 11. The film, which is an official remake of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump, also features Naga Chaitanya, Mona Singh and others. While promoting his upcoming release, Aamir talked about his chemistry with Kareena Kapoor, his journey in the new film, how he deals with failures and a lot more. 

In an interview with Anandabazar Patrika, the actor said that Laal Singh Chaddha has also been an emotional journey for him. Elaborating on the reason why the making took so long, Aamir said that he took time to appear at different ages in the film. “In the film, one will see me at different ages. You can de-age with the help of technology but as an actor, you also need to reduce your age mentally. That’s not an easy task. I am 57 now and I also play the 18-year-old Laal. To portray that successfully was an emotional challenge for me,” he said. 

After 3 Idiots and Talaash, Aamir and Kareena will be seen together. Joking about their camaraderie, Aamir said, “Kareena is a dear friend but she tortures me also.” Elaborating on Kareena’s acting spree, he said, “I have been a fan of Kareena Kapoor since she played ‘Poo’ in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. She is a brilliant actress. She takes no time in getting into the skin of the character. She has become Rupa in Laal Singh Chaddha from Day 1.”

In the Anandabazar interview, Aamir also talked about the character. “In Laal Singh Chaddha’s character, it is his honesty and not holding a grudge against someone or something are the traits that I like the most. Laal Singh movies on. It is not easy to master it. Also, like Laal, I am very close to my mother. Whatever good traits that you see in me, came from my mother,” said Aamir. Talking about being a perfectionist and dealing with failures, he said, "I don’t get disheartened by failures. If one door closes, I go to another door."
