Aamir Khan is set for his movie Sitaare Zameen Par's theatrical release, but he has many concerns when it comes to the movie. Right from OTT culture to 'ill-timing,' the actor has raised concerns whether his movie could actually work in theatres or not. Here's everything he said...
Aamir Khan has slammed the OTT culture by stating how it has destroyed the theatre-going culture altogether. "I don’t know any business where you offer your product, and if someone doesn’t buy it, you tell them—don’t worry, I’ll drop it at your house for free in eight weeks," the actor told News18, adding that it just doesn't make sense to him. The actor further called it a 'famine and feast' model, where some films perform really well whereas most don't work at all. The actor prides on keeping his movie exclusive to theatres, since he is of the belief that early OTT release trend has impacted the theatrical culture. "If someone doesn’t enjoy a film in theatres, they won’t suddenly like it at home. Your opinion of the film doesn’t change just because of where you watch it," he said.
Aamir Khan noticed how action movies have been working in theatres and his upcoming movie, Sitaare Zameen Par is not that. The actor revealed that even though he was told to take up an action film after Laal Singh Chaddha, his heart felt it right to pick Sitaare Zameen Par (he appeared in a cameo in Kajol's Salaam Venky after). In another interview with Galatta Plus, Aamir expressed his concerns about releasing Sitaare Zameen Par in times where action movies (like his previous film Ghajini) are working. "My film always releases at a time when it’s completely ill-timed. When my comedy film comes out, action films are working," the actor said, pointing out how the last 12 blockbusters have been action movies. Nonetheless, the actor hopes that his movie does work in theatres.
Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by Shubh Mangal Saavdhan helmer RS Prasanna, will release exclusively in theatres on June 20.
